An intensive 11-week training course to cover all parts of the British Horse Society Stage 2 Care exam led by Jemimah Channon APC Coach.
The course is open to participants aged 13yrs+ with a BHS Stage 1 or equivalent qualification. Please send us proof of your qualification after booking.

Week 1 – Yard Responsibilities & Horse Care Basics
Understanding the role of an assistant groom, horse welfare standards, stable management, bedding, ventilation, water provision and maintaining a safe, healthy yard environment.
Week 2 – Tack Fitting & Protective Equipment
Correct bridle and saddle fitting, recognising pressure points, and safe use of boots and protective equipment.
Week 3 – Digestive System & Horse Anatomy
How the digestive system works, identifying internal organs, feeding principles and links to colic prevention.
Week 4 – Bandaging & Foot Care
Applying and removing stable bandages safely, basic farriery knowledge and recognising a healthy foot.
Week 5 – Fitness, Conditioning & Skeleton
Assessing fitness, planning conditioning work, and understanding bones, conformation and injury prevention.
Week 6 – Turnout & Presentation Standards
Trimming, plaiting and preparing horses for competition, sale or professional presentation.
Week 7 – Travel Safety & Horsebox Preparation
Fitting travel equipment, safe loading and unloading, and understanding transport safety.
Week 8 – Nutrition & Weight Management
Body condition scoring, feed calculations, ration planning and understanding feed labels.
Week 9 – Health Checks & First Aid
Daily health monitoring, wound care, medication basics and recognising lameness or emergencies.
Week 10 – Behaviour & Illness Management
Understanding behaviour, recognising stress and illness, isolation procedures and when to call the vet.
Week 11 – Mock Exam & Skills Assessment
Full mock assessment and sign-off to prepare for the BHS Stage 2 Care exam.
